What does my blood pressure indicate about my health… 104/53, pulse rate 46 bpm?
Question by Nicole Lake: What does my blood pressure indicate about my health... 104/53, pulse rate 46 bpm?
I am a 17 year old girl...
I have suffered from an eating disorder over he past few years which at different times included excessive self-induced vomiting up to 10 times a day, also at other times I would restrict for months at a time eating no more than 350 calories a day. I never became underweight, when the illness started I was obese because of a medication I was on...
I am now eating healthy, no longer vomiting or exercising excessively, but I am still getting help.
But I get orthostatic hypotension, light headedness, tired all the time, plus my hands and feet are always cold sometimes turning blue and purple...
Basically I purchased an Omron blood pressure monitor recently which came highly recommended as being accurate.
But before I got this I had been monitoring my pulse, and when I told my doctor it was dropping below 50 she did not seem at all concerned.
But could this be a problem?
Could I have done damage?
If so what could be wrong?
I will go to the doctors to get this checked out as soon as possible, but I just really want to have some idea of what it could be that is causing this?

Your blood pressure and pulse rate are below normal.
Possible complications of bulimia:
* Dehydration and hypokalemia caused by frequent vomiting
* Electrolyte imbalance, which can lead to cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, and even death.
Consult the doctor and treat for the cause.

You heart rate is too slow and it causes hypotension
It is called Bradycardia
As applied to adult medicine, is defined as a resting heart rate of under 60 beats per minute, though it is seldom symptomatic until the rate drops below 50 beat/min. It may cause “heart attacks” in some patients or cardiac arrest. This occurs because someone with bradycardia may not be pumping enough oxygen to her or his own heart causing heart attack-like symptoms. It sometimes results in fainting, shortness of breath, and if severe enough, death.
Trained athletes or young healthy individuals may also have a slow resting heart rate (e.g. professional cyclist Miguel Indurain had a resting heart rate of 28 beats per minute). Resting bradycardia is often considered normal if the individual has no other symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, chest discomfort, palpitations or shortness of . breath associated with it.
There are types of bradycardia
1) Atrial bradycardias come in three different types
2) An atrioventricular nodal bradycardia or AV junction rhythm is usually caused by the absence of the electrical impulse from the sinus node. Pathological causes include sinus bradycardia, sinus arrest, sinus exit block, or AV block.
3) A ventricular bradycardia, also known as ventricular escape rhythm or idioventricular rhythm, is a heart rate of less than 50 beats a minute. This a safety mechanism that arises when there is lack of electrical impulse or stimuli from the atrium. Ventricular bradycardias occurs with sinus bradycardia, sinus arrest, and AV block.
